Das Bild gilt heute allgemein als Werk jener Periode, als Garofalo schon von Giorgione, aber noch nicht von Raffael beeinflusst war. Die Reinigung von 1988 hat den Reichtum und die Delikatesse der Farbbehandlung von Korrekturen des 19. Jahrhunderts befreit. Von besonderem Reiz ist der Landschaftsgrund. This picture is now generally considered to be a work from the period in which Garofalo was already influenced by Giorgione but not yet by Raphael. It was cleaned in 1988, revealing richly and delicately handled colour that had been hidden by 19th-century over-painting.
