Diese Komposition wurde mit Nanni di Banco, einem großen Bildhauer in Florenz am Anfang des 15. Jhd. in Verbindung gebracht, dessen Kunst insbesondere vom Modell der klassischen Antike geprägt war. Die Genitalien Christi werden absichtlich sichtbar gelassen, da sie die Menschlichkeit des fleischgewordenen Gottes symbolisieren.

This composition has been recently associated with Nanni di Banco, a great sculptor of early 15th-century Florence whose art was especially shaped by the model of classic Antiquity. The genitals of Christ are left visible on purpose, as they manifest the humanity of God made flesh.
