Objektbeschreibung

In the sensual-moving style Begas introduced in his Neobaroque sculpture, the artist turned away from the principles of classical idealism we find in the work of his teachers Schadow and Rauch. In additional to classical themes, the sculptor now increasingly turned to psychological topics, including biblical subjects like the fraternal rift between Cain and Abel. Begas advanced with his pathosladen compositions to become Emperor Wilhelm II’s most important sculptor for state commissions. | Yvette Deseyve
