The
architect of Friedrichswerdersche Kirche Karl Friedrich Schinkel carried out
many projects together with the sculptor Tieck, including the design of the tea
salon at Berlin Castle or the Berlin Theatre. The commission for this portrait
was received by Tieck just after Schinkel’s death from King Friedrich Wilhelm
IV, but only after longer controversies, because first Rauch and then Drake
were supposed to be offered the commission. After Tieck’s death, his workshop
master Hermann Wittig completed the statue. The statue, heavily worn by the
weather by its placement in front of Altes Museum, was already replaced with a
